Note to self: buy fewer and better accessories that will last
Lucy Dunn is clearing out the clutter and investing in favourites that will stand the test of time. Here’s her edit
Eight fabric tote bags, five mouldy make-up bags and four old black handbags – these are just some of the repetitions I found in my wardrobe after a recent clear-out; things I'd bought and forgotten that I had, or that I'd bought cheap and abandoned because I’ve been disappointed with the quality.
So, I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and buy fewer and better accessories that will last. I am a big Etsy fan, always have been. I can lose hours on the site “window shopping” for homes bits, but it’s only recently I’ve discovered that it is also great for fashion pieces, especially accessories that are great quality and just a little bit different to what you normally find on the regular high street. Here are a few that I’ve bookmarked recently:
THE EVERYDAY BACKPACK
My last leather bag was actually pleather and has fallen apart. This backpack is handmade, with a stitching technique that makes it especially durable and a roll top so the size is adjustable. It’s in a gorgeous toffee-coloured leather that will get better with age, and is sturdy enough that I can wear it on my cycle to work in all weathers. I emailed the seller and got my initials stamped on the front pocket and this detail makes it doubly special. I am so chuffed with it. Hand-sewn backpack by Benny Bee.
